Covid-19 Response Group
At the outbreak of the Covid -19 Pandemic The Rotary Club of Oban formed an action group of suitable members inspired by Covid-19 Action Group Chairperson Rotarian Ronnie Forbes and Group Secretary Rotarian Ciorsti Baxter.
Suitable members included Rotarians Ronnie Forbes( Chairperson ) and Ciorsti Baxter ( Secretary) Rotarians Alan Hoar and William Lockwood, Junior Vice President Lachie Beaton and Past Presidents Ronnie Neil and Tommy McQuade.
Over the last 5 months the Covid Response Group have worked closely with Argyll and Bute Council to support some of the most vulnerable Group in our Community .
Under Chairperson Ronnie’s steadfast direction and Secretary Ciorsti’s liaison with A&B Council, the group has managed the following: Medical Prescriptions Delivered to shielding individuals Shopping requests fulfilled to vulnerable individuals Money raised for Covid -19 response in the Community Food Parcels delivered on behalf of Argyll and Bute Schools Miles covered thereby | 162 53 £672.50 200 3290 | |
Argyll and Bute Covid-19 Response co-ordinator Laura McDonald thanked Group Chairperson Ronnie and the Rotary Club of Oban, on behalf of the Council, for the Clubs outstanding effort.
Secretary Ciorsti Baxter has been tasked with reporting to the Scottish Government regarding communication successes and the continuous improvement in Covid-19 response processes, a great endorsement of the Clubs response in its self and testament to Ciorti’s communication and teamworking skills. Surely a future Rotary President in the making, the Club’s first Lady President perhaps.
Thanks also to The Oban Distillery who provided much needed and, at the time, very scarce Hand Sanitizer to the group. All un-used sanitizer has been passed on to the Oban Girl Guides to assist them in there drive to keep meeting.
Other Covid News
- Past President and Rotary Club Treasurer Roger Parry confirmed that Club Members has passed a total of £4,360 to Hope Kitchen, in the Club’s support of Hope Kitchen’s fight against the worst ravages of Covid-19 in our Community.
- Oban President Kees Van Rein also handed over a cheque for £200 in support of Martyn’s Club during the lockdown.
President Kees said,
“ It is increasingly important that The Rotary Club of Oban dedicates itself in helping to get past the worst effects of Covid-19, particularly as we head towards the Winter coughs and colds period. Our members will continue to help in any way we can to counter the effects of Covid-19 locally.
Like it or not, it will define my Presidential Year but I am fully committed to giving every effort to support our fantastic Community of Argyll and Bute during this Pandemic. The West Highlands and Islands is a very special place with a great sense of self and place. We have faced much hardship in the past and will get through this together, I have no doubt.
Finally, on behalf of our Club I would like to say, “Well Done” to Rotarian Ronnie Forbes and his dedicated team for an outstanding effort."
