The Euroscola day is hosted 10 times a year by the European Parliament in Strasbourg which involves 500 young people from across the EU taking part in a day of presentations, questions, discussions and voting on issues relevant to them. The day is multi- lingual but with the expectation that students can communicate in French and English. Rotary Clubs across Scotland have supported this initiative for over 20 years and this year Oban Rotary achieved a first in that two candidates from Oban High School qualified - Daniel Zawal and Isla Head - attended earlier this year (2019).
Daniel and Isla gave a first class presentation to Rotary members last week of their experience of the Euroscola programme which, of course, is not restricted to one day but involves excursions to France and Germany, visiting many sites of historical and cultural interest. Both were clear that the 5 day programme will live with them for the rest of their lives.
Daniel and Isla are seen here with Oban Rotary President Iain Mac Intyre and fellow Rotarians Kees Van Rein and Ken Oxland following their presentation.
