The Rotary Club of Oban have just replaced the damaged information and landmark signing board at the viewing gallery at McCaig’s Tower with a brand new panorama. The panoramic view from The Tower is annotated with the various points of interest on show and is of great assistance to locals and particularly visitors who valiantly climb the Tower.
President Peter Tosh confirmed that The Rotary Club were delighted to install and maintain the signage as it was a valuable asset to the town in general and added greatly to the enjoyment of any Tower visit. “It’s a great workout if you walk up to the Tower, as we all know, so it’s good that there is excellent information to hand to signpost the views that you have worked so hard to enjoy“, said Peter.
Seen in the Photograph installing the new signage are Past President and current Treasurer Ken Moncrieff
and Senior Vice President Steph Lowe.
Oban Rotary, working in partnership with Oban Community Council , felt that it would be beneficial to tourism if the panoramic view afforded by the Viewing Platform at MacCaigs Tower could identify the many points of interest that comprised the vista.
With this in mind, a coloured photograph, paid for by the aforementioned bodies and shown above, is now in place at the Viewing Platform. The photograph, highlights the Isle of Kerrera, Hutchesons's Memorial, Isle of Lismore, Morvern, Lismore Lighthouse, Duart Castle and finally the Isle of Mull.
